Dear friends,
We have been in Lae a week now. The trip to Goroka went smoothly and we overnighted at our New Tribes guest house in Lapilo there, which was unexpected, but we are really glad we were able to do that. We caught up with several of our missionaries from Wewak who we thought we wouldn’t be able to so that was special. Early the next day we drove to Lae and it was a beautiful drive through the mountains and then across a large valley. We were pulled over once by the police for a random licence check, but other than that, everything went fine which was an answer to prayer. There are rascals in the area who will take any opportunity to try and stop people on the roads to get money, but praise the Lord, not us that day!
Lae has been a nice break for us after the craziness of the past couple of months. It wasn’t until we were here a couple of days before we realised how much we needed some time away, just as a family. There is an above ground pool here that we are really enjoying and a trampoline for the kids as well as 7 puppies that the guard dog had just before we arrived. So plenty for the kids to do. The shops are a whole lot bigger than in Wewak and they have a lot more western products so that has been fun as well. We have sat down and mapped out a bit of a schedule for our time at home. Our dates for travelling start the 2nd of May and we will be spending a couple of days with Robyn’s sister before we move to our guest house in Plumpton for a couple of weeks. Our dates are as follows:
2nd May – 20th May – Sydney area
21st May - 3rd June – Forster/Port Macquarie
4th June – 17th June – Sydney area
18th June – 3rd July - Travel to Timboon Vic hoping to visit with friends and family on the way through where we can
4th July – 10th July – Travel back to Sydney area
10th July – 22nd July – Forster/Port Macquarie
23rd July – 6th August travel on up to Brisbane
7th August – Return to PNG
These are tentative and we are currently trying to book in Bible study and church meetings, as well as catching up and visiting with as many of our supporters and friends(that’s you!) as we can. So when we are in your area, we would love to catch up. Please let us know if you would like us to come share with you at your study or church or just individually, so that we can book it into our calendar.
For those of you who have been praying for Ben & Missy Hatton and the kids, we want to let you know that Ben’s dad passed away. Our prayers have been answered although not necessarily exactly how we would have wanted, however, he is now with the Lord and pain free. It seems his passing was peaceful and the Hatton’s have been a testimony to us all in trusting the Lord in difficult times. They write:
Thank you all for your heartfelt prayers on our behalf these days. James passed into eternity and the presence of the Lord at 7:15pm April 10th. He passed quickly and peacefully and we are so grateful for God's mercy and compassion on us all in this. Our entire family was present and we were all holding his hands as he took his final breaths. We have wept together and sang James' favourite songs together and are presently just enjoying this profound, eternal moment together as a family. Crying and rejoicing. Thank you for standing with us in this, we are so grateful! Pray for us as we make decisions, enjoy a memorial service and begin this transition and new chapter in our lives.
From what they have said, James memorial was a neat time of remembering, friendship and support for the family. They will stay home for a few months as originally planned so they can be there for the family at this time. Thank you for all of you who have been praying for them.
The house below is the one we are staying in. The playground is down past the second house behind the van and the swimming pool is to the left and back across from the little apartment in the second picture. Thanks again for all your prayers for us.
In Him – Dave, Robyn, Logan, Ronan & Kiyana
